Today, 22 May 2024 the Executive Director of the Foundation for Active Civic Education (FACE), Gizex Gizai, made an unannounced visit to Sikedi village in the area of T/A Mbenje, Nsanje district, where FACE, supported by All We Can, YCARE International and Otto per Mille has constructed a solar-powered irrigation scheme.
The purpose of Gizai's visit was to assess the beneficiaries' readiness to plant and maintain their crops.
"As Directors, we usually receive information about these projects through reports from our officers. However, I decided to come here without notifying my officers to see firsthand if the reports match reality, and I am impressed with the progress," said Gizai.
Gizai noted that he observed the participants diligently preparing their land and was pleased with their dedication to growing crops that will support their families both for food consumption and for generating income.
Nasho one of the project participant
Master Nasho, one of the project participants, expressed his gratitude for the scheme, noting its timely implementation.
"The scheme will enable us to harvest at least three times a year since we now have access to water year-round," Nasho said.
"Currently, my wife and I are preparing the land, and we expect to plant maize next week. I hope this harvest will help feed my family of nine."
Nasho also appealed to the project's donors to expand the scheme to benefit more households in the area, where many are struggling with hunger.
The first phase of the completed scheme will benefit at least 35 households, who are now preparing their lands to plant crops in the next two weeks.
