Introduction:
The Foundation for Active Civic Education (FACE), in partnership with CWW, has been implementing an education program since 2010 with the goal of improving access to quality education for vulnerable children, particularly girls, and reducing school-related gender-based violence.

This report summarizes the achievements of the education program activities carried out in March 2011.

Project Goal:
The project aims to increase community participation in school management and create a safer learning environment for girls.

Project Outputs:
1. Increase the protection of learners in targeted zones, with a specific focus on creating a safer learning environment for girls.
2. Strengthen the capacity of School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teachers Associations (PTAs), and promote community participation in school management.
3. Build FACE's capacity to successfully implement the education program.

Achievements:

Output 1: Activities
- Community mobilization sessions were conducted in four schools, covering topics such as school-related gender-based violence, early marriages, HIV/AIDS, child rights, and the value of education.
- Various stakeholders, including SMCs, PTAs, village headmen, and child protection workers, collaborated with FACE to support the sessions.
- Some progress was made in improving school facilities, such as the construction of toilets in Nthondo and Misamvu schools.

Output 2: Activities
- Training sessions for Village Development Committees (VDCs) were conducted, focusing on their roles and responsibilities.
- A total of eight VDCs were trained, bringing the cumulative number of trained VDCs to 18.
- Challenges and specific issues within schools were identified during the training sessions.

Output 2: Follow-ups
- Efforts were made to establish or reestablish Child Protection Committees in schools where they were not functioning.
- New members were elected for School Management Committees and Parent-Teachers Associations in some schools.

Challenges Faced:
1. Lack of support from some head teachers, hindering project activities.
2. Resistance and favoritism from the local authority.
3. Delay in fund transfers, impacting the implementation of activities.

Conclusion:
The Foundation for Active Civic Education has made progress in its education program, focusing on creating a safer learning environment for girls and enhancing community participation in school management. Despite the challenges faced, the organization remains committed to achieving its goals and making a positive impact on education in the targeted zones.
