Are you looking for inspiration and motivation? Look no further than Mrs. Gradess Tembo, a resident of Chimpiningu Village in T/A Malemia, Nsanje District. Thanks to the SIDA project, funded by VSO Malawi and implemented by FACE, Mrs. Tembo received a life-changing opportunity.
Selected by her community as a beneficiary of the project, Mrs. Tembo underwent rigorous training to equip her with the necessary business skills. From market research to leadership skills, Mrs. Tembo and her group of 25 members received training in various areas, including business management, pricing, gender, HIV/AIDS, sexual reproductive health, women's rights, and family planning.
With the training completed, Mrs. Tembo and her group received MK500,000 as seed money to manage similarly to the Village Loan Savings. Using her share of MK20,000, Mrs. Tembo purchased sesame and bean seeds and started a small grocery store in the village selling biscuits, surf powder, puffs, salt, and washing tablets soap, as seen in the picture.
Thanks to her hard work and determination, Mrs. Tembo was able to sell her sesame seed and purchase a radio and a new bicycle for her family. She is grateful for the soft loan, which has a long repayment period and low interest rates, making it easy to repay without the pressure of other lending institutions.
This innovative approach to village and savings loans is providing a path to success and financial independence for women in Malawi. Mrs. Tembo's inspiring story shows the power of investing in education and training to create opportunities for individuals and communities.
If Mrs. Tembo can achieve success, so can you! Take inspiration from her hard work and dedication, and seize the opportunities available to you. The sky's the limit!
