Are you aware that there was a 30% increase in community members, including students and pupils, who know their HIV/AIDS status? Thanks to the efforts of FACE (Foundation for Active Civic Education) and Goal Malawi, several youth clubs in selected villages were trained on HIV prevention and care.
The youth clubs were established in Khambadza and Mbingwa villages, and a total of 54 youths (32 male and 29 female) participated in the meetings. After the training, 100 pieces of male condom were given to the clubs, and the officers ensured that gender mainstreaming was in place to make sure that everyone had equal opportunities to participate and contribute to the discussions.
However, during the follow-up meetings with youth clubs in the selected villages of Chambuluka, Penumulungu, Solomoni, Buleya, Nalikhozi, and Mchacha 6, several issues were brought up. Some of these issues were a lack of free male and female condoms, inadequate training, the lack of recreation centers, and insufficient coordination and supervision by the CBO’s and other leading groups within their communities.
To tackle these challenges, FACE recommended the establishment of a youth support groups at GVH level, holding meetings with community leaders and CBO, and initiating the creation of recreation centers at GVH level. By implementing these recommendations, we can provide the necessary support to our youths and empower them to take the lead in HIV prevention and care.
At FACE, we are committed to working with our communities to build a better future for our youths. Join us today and let's make a positive impact together.
