Smallholder farmers play a critical role in feeding our growing global population. However, many face significant challenges in achieving high yields due to limited access to resources, knowledge, and technology.
To help overcome these barriers, various training programs have been developed to equip farmers with new agricultural techniques that can increase their productivity.
One such program is the conservation agriculture and manure making training, which has been successfully implemented in several communities in Nsanje District. Farmers in GVH Fulukiya, Nyanjidu, Kalenso, and GVH Alfazema, Chitseko, and Namanya in TA Mbenje and TA Mlolo, respectively, have been practicing manure making, soil cover, and construction of ridges on contour ridges.
By intensifying the application of manure in their fields, farmers have been able to significantly increase their yields and improve the quality of their crops. As a result, more farmers have taken conservation agriculture and manure making seriously, and the success stories of those who have implemented these practices are spreading throughout the communities.
One farmer in particular is proud of his success in manure making and has shared his story with others. Thanks to the acceleration plan, many more farmers are taking advantage of the opportunity to access khola manure and boost their production. By adopting these sustainable farming practices, smallholder farmers in Nsanje District are not only improving their livelihoods but also contributing to a more sustainable future for all.
These programs were implemented by FACE with funding from Irish Aid through Goal Malawi.
