CYLONE IDAI EMERGENCY RESPONSE DISTRIBUTION REPORT

caption

Floods, droughts, and other natural disasters can strike without warning, causing significant damage and loss of life. The Foundation for Active Community Education (FACE) recently undertook an emergency relief response project to provide aid to flood victims in four villages: Bande, Khembo, Semba, and Kanyanyi. The goal was to distribute essential relief items to those in need, such as maize flour, cooking oil, soya pieces, beans, exercise books, and pens.

After approval of the budget for emergency relief response, FACE procured the necessary items from local suppliers, including Rab Processors, Ohara General Suppliers, and Soza General Dealers. The total cost of the supplies was MK4,987,110.

The distribution was conducted on May 9th and 10th, 2019, as planned. A total of 6520 KGs of maize flour, 652 liters of cooking oil, 3260 packets of soya pieces, and 3630 KGs of beans were distributed to beneficiaries in the four villages.

The distribution was conducted smoothly, except for minor discrepancies due to packaging of the supplier, resulting in a balance of 4 liters of cooking oil and 40 packets of soya pieces.

FACE did not distribute exercise books and pens during the same time as relief food was being distributed because the pupils were closing for Easter Holidays. These materials were later distributed on April 26th, 2019, in preparation for the school opening on April 29th, 2019.
During distribution, FACE was honored to have James Kalikwembe, accompanied by FACE Executive Director, who advised the flood victims to take good care of the relief items.

They were also advised to utilize residual moisture during the winter period to avoid prolonged food shortage in their households. They received advice on program activities offering Climate Smart Agriculture Technologies that they need to embrace to address food insecurity.

The flood victims were informed about the support received from All We Can for the response and the amount of goods procured. They were also informed that distributions with the same quantities would be done for the next two months.

In conclusion, FACE was able to successfully implement the emergency relief response plan, providing necessary aid to flood victims in the four villages. The organization was able to procure the required supplies from local suppliers and distribute them to the beneficiaries as planned. The project was executed within the allocated budget and timeframe, thanks to the efficient planning and coordination of activities.
